"If you need vocals for this..."

Try "Alright" by Phil York & Dark By Design, if you can find an acapella.

BAD ASS -[demo]-

"Good structure"

submission: BAD ASS -[demo]-
date: April 15, 2009

You seem to know where you're going with this, but I think the mix is really off. The drums need to provide more structure, it seems the pace is being set by the bassline/lead combo you have going on, which is far too loud.

I understand that louder = more strength (and therefore more "badass factor"), but the way your mix is now, that lead is sapping the punch out of the rest of the mix, and it ends up sounding less powerful - to take it to an extreme, it's like a 1000W amp + synth next to a guy with a tambourine. This is an easy mistake to make - lots of my own projects suffer from this early on.

Think about layering a second bass kick sound in there and taking down the gain of the bassline - you might also want to try reducing the high end of the mids EQ ever so slightly, as this could allow you to keep your level higher without the predominant portion of the sound crowding everything.

Bushido Blade

"Unbelieveable!"

submission: Bushido Blade
date: March 13, 2009

This is hands down the best Drum N Bass track I've heard on Newgrounds, and I lurk around the genre a LOT. This deserves an award. Crystal clear and powerful, and yes the first thing I thought of when I heard it was "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu", too. I'm like itching to go make a track just like this now, but I'm not because of course it would be a total rip off, what with this stuck in my head and all! This is unbelievably awesome work.

I'm about *thisclose* to buying your CD...gonna wait until I get paid. Then, it's on like Donkey Kong...whatever that means. It means I'm buying your CD, and whoever else reads this should, too.

If you weren't sure what TRUE Drum N Bass was about before, listen to this song, and now you know.

After Tidewaiter Village

"This is REAL Drum 'n Bass!"

date: February 27, 2009

Unlike what other reviewers have said, Drum 'N Bass doesn't need a catchy melody, and vocals don't need to be clear and understood. You kids these days, you listen to too much Pendulum; you don't know what the fuck real Drum 'N Bass is.

This is it.

If a normal song tells a story, a Drum 'N Bass track is supposed to express one scene. They're basically "moods on disc," if you will. This track does exactly that, with AMAZING dynamic range and a generous stereo field, creative use of vocals for their tonal and texture quality (rather than feeding the artists intent to the listener in words), and EQ and mix layering like a mastering engineer did it. The ambient pads and strings are gorgeous, the piano fits in perfectly, and I believe the vocal is at just the right volume level; the voice is just another instrument, not a leader. Such is the way of much electronic music.

Newgrounds needs to learn when it has a real treasure on its hands. This is one of those treasures.

This is an excellent piece, and without being annoying or stupid is still somehow so damn catchy... I don't know how you do it.

Blink 182-The Rock Show Techno

"Please no more remixes"

date: January 11, 2009

Dance music is dying and it's because no one wants to be creative anymore, they just want to remix songs from other genres. It's turning an art into a novelty, and you score poorly from me because of it.
